Behind the hedge – the history of Maze House

Maze House is great outdoor fun near Daylesford! The hedge maze and old time carnival games are fun for kids, families, friends groups, garden lovers and couples  who love a bit of competition!

The maze

Our maze was planted 29 years ago, using 400 cypress seedlings. With decent rainfall for tree growing and deep red gradational soils, the hedge was more or less formed in 6 years.

We were distracted with other ventures and finally the time was right to open 5 years ago. You might say that’s a lot of time with a private maze! And it was!

Carnival games

We have always been collectors with an eye for old fashioned games and carnival memorabilia. Most of our games are original, designed to test your skills.

Some of the crowd favourites are our original ‘Return Bowling’ – ten pin bowling with a twist, ‘Knock-em-Down’ where tennis balls are thrown at moving targets and ‘Wind-Up Horse Racing’ where you race with some of Australia’s best race horses. For more on our old time carnival games click here
